Music at St Paul's

Louise Turner - Choir Director
David Pether - Organist

The music at our services plays an important part of the life of the church. Our robed choir sings at the 9:30 Parish Mass and the 6:15 Solemn Evensong and Benediction. We are a mixed choir of adults and children singing a wide variety of music both ancient and modern, from plainsong to new anthems. Because our services and liturgy are formal (although they do have their light-hearted moments!) we get to sing the music which many church choirs simply don't have the opportunity to sing. Our liturgy for Holy Week and Easter is known throughout the area.

The music for this joyful hymn of praise which greets our risen Lord coming to speak to us in our midst, is a hymn for all of us to join in with. Our present Alleluia is shown above for you except during Advent when Judah & Jerusalem is sung. The organ plays the music first, the choir then sings the Alleluia, and we all join in as the Alleluia is repeated. A verse of scripture is then sung after which we all sing Alleluia once more. Do join in singing this joyful outburst to greet the gospel
